Everyday a photo...or 2 Day 6

Child Labor or Teaching Him Young?

Today was quite the eventful day...full of housework! Now usually I don't get too much help in this area but for some reason I had a little helper today!

After doing the dishes (that should have been done last night) I decided that today was the day to clean the fridge...Tomorrow is grocery day. After I had emptied everything from the fridge, Ben came to ask what I was doing and said that he wanted to help. So, I said "Have at it!!!"

I gave him a cloth and a bucket and into the fridge he went!

Shortly after completing the fridge, which he did a wonderful job on I might add, it was time to start supper. First I had to take a swagbucks break, and did a few searches for a good pie crust recipe. Which I did find, and altered a little too my liking. We were making Chicken Pot Pie for supper, which is a new one for me...It Turned Out YUMMY!!! So, Once again, I put the little guy to work. He was thrilled to be making supper for us! This was his very first pie crust, and it turned out very flaky!!! Though before we started he made sur to inquire about the ingredients. His exact words were; "Mom, does this recipe need flour, cause if it does I HAVE to wear my apron so I don't get messy." He made me laugh so hard I had tears in my eyes!

After the pie crust was ready and sitting in the fridge, we sent out to prepare the filling for our Chicken Pot Pie! He prepared the veggies while I cooked the chicken.

Today was an awesome day...we accomplished a lot, and he rarely had to be gotten after. It's funny how kids tend to be so much better behaved when they're included in our daily routines.

Now, here is the recipe for the Chicken Pot Pie we made for supper today.
Preheat oven to 450 F.

Pie Crust

1 C Crisco Shortening
2 C Flour
1 tsp Salt
1 Egg Beaten
1 tbsp Vinegar
5 tbsp Water.

Blend together the Shortening, Flour and Salt until it is crumbly. Create a well in the center of the mixture and add your egg, vinegar and water. Mix together until a dough starts to form. Knead briefly and refrigerate until ready to use. (Will keep for a week in the fridge)

Pie Filling

2 Lg Chicken Breast Cubed
1 Lg Onion Chopped/diced or sliced (how ever you like it)
2 Tbsp Italian Salad Dressing
1 C Frozen or Fresh Peas
1 C Carrots Sliced
1C Corn Nibblets
Potatoes Cubed.
2 Cans Campbell's Cream of (what ever you want) Soup (we used mushroom)

In a nonstick pan put your chicken breast, onion and salad dressing. Cook until chicken in done, then add your corn and peas. In a separate pot, boil your carrots and potatoes until tender, then add them to your chicken mixture. Once you have everything in the pan, add your cream of whatever soup. Mix well.

In a large baking dish, I used a 9" X 9", Spray with non stick spray. Put your filling mixture in the bottom of the pan. Roll out your Pie Crust to the shape of your pan and place it over top. Put a few slits in the crust for steam to escape. Bake for about 30 minutes or until pie crust is a nice golden brown color.

Enjoy!!!

I prefer to think of it as teaching them young. :D Fantastic!!! Wonder if I could get my kids to help write posts or tweet?
